Fathers Day After Shaves

How about a nice scent?. Fragrance Direct offer a complete range of discounted scents with really cheap delivery. Here’s a few of the more popular fragrances….

Calvin Klein
In 1968, Calvin Klein set up his own coat shop at the York Hotel in New York City. Calvin Klein’s portfolio expanded in later years to include sportswear, cosmetics, jeans, underwear and fragrances. Indeed, it was the success of Calvin Klein’s underwear and fragrances that saved the company from bankruptcy in the early 90s. Since the first fragrance, Calvin, was launched in 1981, Calvin Klein has become renowned for its fragrance collection; the biggest perfumes being Eternity, CK One, Obsession and Euphoria and most recently CK Free, Man, Contradiction and CK Be.

Diesel
Founded by Renzo Rosso and Adriano Goldschmied, in the Italian town of Molvena in 1978, the Diesel label was predominantly a youth clothing brand, specialising in jeans. The label’s first flagship store opened on New York City’s Lexington Avenue in 1996, and now retails in over 500 outlets right around the world. Today Diesel produces much more than denim products; the brand now encompasses footwear, watches, beachwear, a childrenswear label (Diesel Kid) and of course, fragrances. The first fragrance, Fuel for Life, was launched in 2007, and has since been joined by Only the Brave, as well as an accompanying range of toiletries, including shower gels and body lotions.

Hugo Boss
Hugo Ferdinand Boss set up a clothing company in the small German town of Metzingen in 1924. Today, the Hugo Boss brand retails in over 6000 stores across 110 countries worldwide. From the launch of its first fragrance in 1993, the Hugo Boss brand now produces dozens of perfumes and aftershaves, including Boss in Motion, Hugo, Element, Deep Red, Baldessarini and Dark Blue.

Beckham Fragrances
Undoubtedly the world’s most famous celebrity couple, David and Victoria Beckham are now as well known for their business ventures as they are for their day jobs. Victoria in particular has been recognised the world over as a fashion icon, and has designed her own fashion line for Rock & Republic, VB Rocks. In 2006 the Beckhams signed a multi-million pound deal to launch their own range of his-and-her fragrances, Intimately Beckham. The Beckhams fragrance collection now includes Instinct, Intimately Beckham Night, Signature and Signature Story.

Make Your Own!

There are lots of cheap or free options for Fathers Day presents if you take a look around the web.  A good site to start with is Instructables. They have some great ideas such as pimping USB memory sticks to make them look like a packet of chewing gum, a rubber and even lego!

For neo-luddite dad, a good alternative  is the classic fathers day gift, cufflinks! At the end of the article you will find some links to instructions on how to make Star Wars (my personal favourite!) and hand sewn monogrammed versions.

Continuing the sartorial theme, how about making your dad a tie? Normally a tie is a gift I’d steer well clear of due to them being somewhat of a cliche, however your Dad will really appreciate the work and effort that has gone into a home made version, although I can’t promise he’ll wear it! :) Another alternative would be to dig out some of his old t-shirts or shirts and bring them up to date with a few small enhancements… add a few well placed pieces of material or buy a home transfer kit for the family printer and your dad will be looking the business on his special day!

If your dad’s a recycling nut then how about some of these great tips on re-using everyday items; make a tin can into a calendar or a pen holder… old cutlery for a wall mounted key holder or make a glasses case from an old tie.

Cantona: The Rebel Who Would Be King £5.99

‘An artist, in my eyes, is someone who can lighten up a dark room. I have never and will never find difference between the pass from Pele to Carlos Alberto in the final of the World Cup in 1970, and the poetry of the young Rimbaud’ – Eric Cantona Football, and art. Eric Cantona – legend, maverick, troubled artist or just plain trouble – never saw a need to make a distinction between the two. For all the heat and noise surrounding his infamous Crystal Palace ‘kung-fu kick’, it is for the sheer exuberant beauty of his play that Eric Cantona is chiefly remembered by English football fans. At Leeds United he transformed the team into title contenders, but became a true talisman at Manchester United, where to this day fans sing of ‘King Eric’. And yet the effortless style of Cantona’s play could not hide a darker side to his temperament. In his own words, ‘I play with passion and fire. I have to accept that sometimes, this fire does harm.’ Leading French football journlist Philippe Auclair has interviewed over 200 key protagonists in Cantona’s career, searching for the man behind the myth. Marrying a deep knowledge of Cantona’s impact on the pitch with soulful, pin-sharp insight into the heart and inner thoughts of this most complex of characters, this is nothing less than the definitive biography of a one-time rebel of the French game, who rose to be the King of Old Trafford. ‘I’d give all the champagne I’ve ever drunk to be playing alongside Cantona in a big European match at Old Trafford’ – George Best.
